The conductor
Pärt Uusberg (1986) is a young Estonian composer and conductor, who was born in Rapla into an artist family. In 2009, he graduated from Tallinn’s G. Ots Music High School in choral conducting under the tutelage of Heli Jürgenson. In 2012, he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Composition from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (EMTA) as a student of Tõnu Kõrvits. In 2014, he completed his Master’s degree at EMTA under Toivo Tulev and Tõnu Kõrvits.
Pärt Uusberg has been an active singer in different music groups, starting in Riinimanda choirs in Rapla under the guidance of his mother, Urve Uusberg. For a long time, Uusberg sang in the Estonian Youth Mixed Choir (Taavi Esko and Kadri Leppoja), after which he was part of Voces Musicales (Risto Joost and Kaspar Mänd). In 2010, he participated in the World Youth Choir (Ragnar Rasmussen and Josep Vila i Casanas). As a conductor, Pärt Uusberg started his career with the Riinimanda childrens’ choir (2006-2008). In addition to his work as the chief conductor of Chamber Choir Head Ööd, Vend, Uusberg has also conducted the Estonian Youth Mixed Choir, youth and alumni choir Mitte-Riinimanda and the mixed choir August 07.
In 2011, he received the Veljo Tormis Fund Scholarship and for the fruitful year, the Estonian Choral Association, together with the Estonian Composers’ Union awarded him the Choral Composer of the Year 2012. In 2014, Uusberg was given the scholarship of the Gustav Ernesaks Fund for promoting the choral movement, in 2015, he received Marje and Kuldar Sink’s award “Young Musician” and in 2016, The Young Cultural Figure Award of the Cultural Foundation of the President of the Republic of Estonia.
The choir has previously worked together with conductors Jaanika Kilgi (2008-2010), Dario Ribechi (2010-2011) and Külli Kiivet (2012-2015).
